Description

 Performs cleaning and lawn care at Civic Center, Anna Drain Park, Grant Levins Pavilion, Cemeteries, and other city-owned property & shop area; maintains supplies in city-owned facilities; performs maintenance & repairs on equipment; completes monthly checks following a checklist. Custodial & Building Caretaker: OTHER FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS. Performs cleaning and custodial duties in Civic Center library, kitchen, auditorium, lobby, meeting room & restrooms; cleaning & custodial duties in City Hall.

1. Facilities Maintenance & Custodial Training

  • Learns proper cleaning techniques for various spaces including libraries, kitchens, restrooms, and offices.

  • Gains experience with equipment use and maintenance (e.g., vacuums, mops, lawn care tools), as well as how to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs.

  • Follows checklists and schedules, teaching routine inspection and preventive maintenance practices.

2. Groundskeeping & Outdoor Facility Management

  • Develops landscaping skills through mowing, trimming, and maintaining city properties (parks, cemeteries, public buildings).

  • Understands seasonal property care and basic environmental stewardship.

3. Inventory & Supply Management

  • Tracks and restocks cleaning and maintenance supplies, learning how to monitor inventory and communicate needs—a basic but important element of facility operations.

4. Workplace Safety & Compliance

  • Learns and practices OSHA-aligned safety protocols, including safe handling of chemicals and equipment.

  • Understands the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and public health standards in public facilities.

5. Accountability & Task Management

  • Learns how to prioritize tasks, complete daily/weekly checklists, and follow written instructions, reinforcing independence and responsibility in a work setting.

6. Civic Engagement & Public Service Exposure

  • Provides services that directly support the community’s access to safe, clean public spaces, encouraging a sense of pride and ownership in civic upkeep.

  • Offers insight into the roles of city departments and public works, opening pathways for careers in municipal services.
