GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs routine shelving work including servicing and maintaining book stocks, magazines and other library materials. Performs related work as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Library Director or designated supervisor who assigns work details and reviews work for conformance with established library policies and procedures. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision of other employees is not a normal responsibility
of an employee in this classification. TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this classification may perform any of
the following duties. However, these examples do not include all the specific tasks which an employee may be expected to perform. 1. Sorts and organizes books returned to the library. Transports materials to shelving area or stacks. Replaces books, magazines and other library materials on appropriate shelves or stacks according to established procedures. Re-shelves materials found in wrong location. Shift materials to other shelving to maintain appropriate spacing. 2. May answer simple directional questions, or refer library users to a librarian for assistance with reference questions. 3. Performs miscellaneous routine tasks such as emptying book drop, cleaning books, putting books through sensitizer machine, "reading shelves" to put materials back into proper order and arrangement, preparing notices for mailing, prepare newspapers for the public, and maintain newspaper archives. 4. Assists with the processing and repair of library materials. |
