Description |
Working in the out doors providing vegetation clearing including trees to provide defensible space for homeowners from wild land fire. Duties performed include, picking up small vegetation debris such as tree branches and piling them in an orderly manner. Tactically building piles in specific locations where they can be safely burned in the future. Raking and sweeping. Learning ropes and knots. Filling up power equipment with fuel. Taking inventory of supplies. Learning tree species and defects. Learning forestry safety practices |
Educational Aspect |
Students will learn basic fire knowledge and what procedures need to be taken to properly defend a standing structure from wild fire. Within this type of work they can see how team work combined with good camaraderie can accomplish a large workload faster than imagined. Self confidence can be grown and self limitation can possibly be exceeded from this line of work in result, gives a great self of reward and feeling of accomplishment while providing an important service that could change someone's life in the future. |
Further Requirements |
Items needed for work: Long sleeve shirts, pants, boots, gloves. Helmet, eye protection, ear protection will be provided. Expectations; Showing up on time, bringing a packed lunch, having at least 4 bottles of water / canteens, showing a desire to learn and work hard, keeping and maintaining a positive attitude. |
